How to Fix Error E18 (Drain Pump Blockage)

By Device Dr 5 Min Read

If your Bosch washing machine has stopped mid-cycle with water inside and is flashing E18 (or F18), do not panic. This is the most common error we see in Singapore, and 90% of the time, you can fix it yourself without tools.

What does E18 mean?

E18 means the machine cannot drain the water out. This is usually caused by a coin, a button, or accumulated lint blocking the drain pump filter.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Drain the Water Manually

Warning: Do not open the filter yet! Water will flood your floor. Locate the small black hose next to the filter cap (bottom right). Pull it out, remove the stopper, and let the water drain into a shallow tray.

2. Open the Filter

Once the water stops flowing, unscrew the large round cap (counter-clockwise). Pull it out. You will likely find debris inside.

3. Check the Impeller

Look inside the hole. There is a small propeller (impeller). Use your finger to check if it spins freely. If it feels stuck, look for a rubber band or hair wrapped around it.

Still not working?

If you have cleaned the filter and the error persists, the drain pump motor itself might be burnt out. This requires a part replacement.
