Is your Smeg dryer spinning perfectly, but the clothes come out cold and damp? Before you call a technician or buy a new machine, you need to check the Safety Thermostat Reset Button.
Smeg dryers are designed with a safety feature that cuts power to the heater if it gets too hot. This often happens if you forget to clean the lint filter.
Safety First!
⚠️ UNPLUG THE MACHINE from the power socket before doing this. You will be working near the heater element.
Step-by-Step Reset Guide
1. Access the Back
Pull the dryer out so you can access the back panel. You will see a metal cover shaped like a kidney bean or oval in the center/bottom area.
2. Remove the Heater Cover
Unscrew the screws holding this cover in place. Once removed, you will see the heating element coils and some wiring.
3. Find the Red Button
Look for a small thermostat (usually a round component) with a tiny red pin or button in the center.
4. The "Click"
Press the red button firmly. If you hear or feel a distinct CLICK, congratulations! You have just reset the heater. Reassemble the cover and test the dryer.
Why did it trip?
The button doesn't trip for no reason. It tripped because the machine overheated. To prevent this from happening again tomorrow:
- Clean the Door Filter: Wash it with soap and water (lint can be invisible).
- Clean the Condenser: If you have a condenser dryer, pull out the condenser unit at the bottom and rinse it in the shower.
Button won't click? Or no red button?
If there is no click, your heating element might be burnt out, or your model uses a "One-Shot" thermostat that needs replacing. We can fix that for you.
